Judy Ross
2022 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient
Judy Ross is a life-long Victoria area resident and started riding as a child. After completing her university degree and doing a short stint as a schoolteacher, Judy combined her love training horses and teaching into her life-long coaching career, spanning 50 years. Although most of Judy’s students were based in Victoria, she travelled weekly to Nanaimo to teacher her large following of students in the central island. She regularly travelled with her student on the “A” circuit shows in BC, Alberta, Washington, and Oregon.
Judy was instrumental in forming the BC Hunter Jumper Association and the Vancouver Island Hunter Jumper Association. She organized the first pilot technical courses and exams when the national coaching program was first introduced in 1980’s. In 2011, Horse Council BC awarded Judy with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her many contributions to our sport.
